PRIME Minister, Mr Majaliwa Kassim Majaliwa, has promised to enhance cooperation among the three pillars of the state, in a move aimed at accelerating developments to the people.
The fifth phase government under its slogan of ‘Hapa Kazi Tu’, I will implement this theme to the best of my ability,” he told the august House.
Mr Majaliwa said that he recognised the expectations and trust of the people to the MPs and was aware of their task ahead, including working on development challenges the electorates were facing in different constituencies in the country.
He, therefore, called upon all MPs to cooperate with the people to meet their expectations and assisting them to improve the living standards. According to him, he would not expect the MPs to go to live in Dar es Salaam or stay in Dodoma, hoping that everyone would go to his respective constituency to serve the people.
“While in constituencies, we should participate in every essential meetings aimed at bringing development. I believe staying close to the people will enable us to know the challenges they are facing,” the prime minster said. “I promise to support you all. Our aim is to build trust to the people.
On my part, I will travel all the way to all parts of the country to get first hand information about problems the people are facing,” he said.
The premier also reminded the MPs that they managed to get enough votes and hence winning this year’s elections. Therefore, he said, the time of seeking more votes for 2020 must start now, but through serving the people. “My call to you honourable Members of Parliament is that we should cooperate with the government and the people, who elected us to build the country. Our political differences should now come to the end.
Let us fulfil our duties for the interests of the nation,” he appealed. To reinforce his position, the prime minister quoted an Academician Ralph Bunche who says, “To make our way, we must have firm resolve, persistence and tenacity. We must gear ourselves to work hard all the way. We can never let up.”
It is the first time for Mr Majaliwa to address the Parliament as Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania. He was appointed by President John Magufuli on November 19, before being endorsed by the National Assembly after securing 258 ‘yes’ votes, equivalent to 73.5 per cent of all votes cast.
He becomes the 11th prime minister since independence, succeeding Mr Mizengo Kayanza Pinda, who officially retired on November 5, this year.
