Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Eliud Wabukala has
called for a referendum “to liberate the country from politicians’
appetite for money and power”.
Speaking at Murang’a ACK
Cathedral on Saturday, Archbishop Wabukala said that the only way to
stop greed and corruption was for Christians and other religious people
to sponsor a motion of referendum that would be drafted for the next
General Election.
Archbishop Wabukala, who chairs the
National Anti-Corruption Campaign Steering Committee, urged Kenyans to
start a strong movement to tame the politicians ahead of 2017.
“I
call upon Kenyans to rescue our country from politics as there is a lot
of appetite for money and power,” he said. “We have given a lot of
premium to politics.”
“I think there should be a third
force, a third revolution or a third reformation in this country. My
suggestion would be another reform to liberate this country from
appetite of money and power,” the cleric said.
His call
comes at a time MPs have come up with more extravagant proposals that
will afford them and their spouses preferential treatment at the expense
of taxpayers.
