Man loses bid to stop Grace Kaindi replacement

A court has declined to stop the replacement of Ms Grace Kaindi as deputy inspector-general of police.

Justice Monica Mbaru of the Employment and Labour Relations Court ruled that the decision to replace Ms Kaindi has already been made.

The Judge said the application by Mr Zachary Onsongo will be heard in seven days.

Mr Onsongo has sued the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) and the Attorney-General.

The defendants opposed the application and told the court that the petitioner will not suffer any prejudice if no orders are issued to stop replacement of Ms Kaindi as he has no employment contract with NPSC.

In his suit through lawyer Jesse Oduor, Mr Onsongo alleges that the decision to replace Ms Kaindi violates the Constitution.

He argues that the transfer erodes constitutional gains towards the empowerment of women.

The petitioner said the deputy inspector-general of police holds a constitutional office and was appointed on the basis of a competitive process by the NPSC.

He added that Ms Kaindi has a five-year contract that ends in 2018.
