CCM presidential candidate Dr John Magufuli.
He told an election rally in Kigoma Region yesterday that corrupt
officials in the government are seeking safety nets as they know his
position about public servants who have been stealing from Tanzanians
and blocking development of the people.
The candidate made these observations in different occasions at
campaign meetings on his way from Kigoma to Kagera Region, where he
started his campaigns later yesterday.
At Biharamulo, Dr Magufuli said he has been minister for 15
consecutive years and thus he is mature enough to lead the country into
true development which will ensure the people a better life.
“The State House is not a place to go for experiments. I am
adequate for the task as I have the right experience from many years.
Everywhere I have worked I was never once dismissed or being involved in
any scandal. Some are given the ministerial post for one year and are
dismissed but I have never been removed from a ministerial post, so I
ask you to believe me,” he told the crowd.
He also said there wouldn’t be petty talk in his style of work as
he would appoint competent and hardworking ministers who shall work day
and night to ensure that problems facing the people are resolved on
time.
He told the crowds that were he to be elected to the State House he
would be a servant of all without bringing into the picture their
political loyalties, in which case all Tanzanians of different political
parties should vote for him in large numbers so that he removes what
dissatisfies them.
He said that in past governments he was working by being directed
from above and he did a good job, in which case he would not accept lame
excuses from ministers.
At Buyungu constituency, the candidate promised people of the area
construction of a five-kilometer tarmac road as well as build the
Kakonko-Kibondo-Kasulu road up to Manyovu in Kigoma to tarmac level.
In many areas he passed, Dr Magufuli promised people in those areas
services including water, electricity, roads and quality health
services, emphasizing that when he is in charge he will make sure that
government hospitals have adequate supplies of medicines.
He told the people in those areas that if he is elected to the
State House the problem of hospital drugs going missing would be
resolved in a short period.
Amon Mpanju, a vision-challenged disabled traveling with the
candidate, said of Dr Magufuli to be a real patriot who has worked for
the country with great diligence.
He said that other contestants do not have those qualifies to
equate with the CCM candidate and don’t have a good record of dedication
and honesty.
Addressing people of Biharamulo, Dr Magufuli said he was a great
friend of workers and was surprised by people going around sowing
discord between him and government employees, that when he takes office
he would go after them and they would be in problems.
He said loyal and diligent workers who have conducted themselves
properly have no reason to fear him as when he enters the State House he
would combat public servants who are thieves, bribe-takers and having
the habit of telling citizens to ‘come tomorrow.
“People are scaring you for nothing that I will be harsh when I
take over,” he remarked, insisting that he would only be an adversary of
wrongdoers,, giving excuses of being busy and not attending problems
facing the people.
In his Biharamulo rally, he said he knows that salaries paid to
public servants are little so he would ensure that tax deductions are
diminished a great deal so that they can improve their lives, promising
to increase salaries so that people stick to their offices to work for
Tanzanians and not to pursue projects outside the office.
He said that if elected he would continue preaching peace, as if it
disappears there is no single Tanzanian who will be sage, reminding
people of what happened in Rwanda and Burundi where people suffered
greatly for lack of peace.
