Dodoma. CCM is set to
officially endorse and announce names of its cadres who will contest for
parliamentary and civic positions in the October 25 General Election.
The
party’s Secretariat Committee yesterday met here for a preliminary
process of screening names of the cadres, including debating various
complaints.
Briefing reporters here yesterday, CCM
Ideology and Publicity secretary Nape Nnauye said the party’s Central
Committee will from tomorrow meet for two days.
That will be followed by the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on August 12-13.
“We
will make sure that we pass through all complaints filed by various
cadres from different constituencies since our focus is to get a cream
of patriots who will stand firmly in the election for the party to win
in all constituencies,” he said.
However, Mr Nnauye was
concerned about some cadres who were violating procedures to express
their complaints. “The party has set good principles and protocols on
how a cadre is supposed to file his/her complaints to the required
committee, but it is disconcerting to realise that some cadres have been
conducting press conferences to lobby for their rights instead of
forwarding their complaints to the right committee.”
He
said the party was prepared to discuss all complaints raised by the
cadres and deliver the ruling without bias since the aim of CCM was to
get best aspirants.
He also cautioned the cadres
against the recent revelation of some unscrupulous people who registered
their Sim cards in the names of CCM top officials to solicit bribes
from contenders to ensure their names are nominated by NEC.
“We
have caught three of them who registered their Sim cards under my name
[Nape Moses Nnauye]. They have been calling some cadres and soliciting
money, claiming that they will assist them to have their names endorsed
by NEC,” he revealed.
He said one of the unscrupulous people was demanding Sh10 million from one cadre.
According
to him, investigations are continuing and serious measures will be
taken against the culprits who solicit bribes and tarnish the images of
CCM officials.
He also spoke of the party’s efforts of
conducting everything professionally, insisting that no one would be
nominated through bribe or favouritism.
In another
development, CCM has cautioned some members of the Coalition of
Defenders of the People’s Constitution (Ukawa) for plotting to tarnish
the ruling party’s image ahead of the General Election.
He claimed that some Ukawa members had illegally printed CCM cards and distribute them to Ukawa members.
According
to him, such members will, in the future, surrender the cards to Ukawa
leaders, implying that they are defecting from CCM while that is not the
case.
“Those are not just rumors; we have confirmed
that. I warn Ukawa’s top brass over the matter before we take serious
action against them.
