The
Aero Club is located inside the Wilson Airport premises, and
conveniently serves the pilots and administrative personnel who work in
the environs. It is an old-style building, set amid a beautiful tropical
garden.
There is ample parking which is free, aside from the Sh100 fee you pay Kenya Airports Authority to enter the airport premises.
The
Aero Club decor is rustic and resembles an aviation museum with
paraphernalia and mementos, amidst sturdy timeless hardwood beams.
It is open to members of the public, who are welcome to come in and eat at either the indoor dining area or the outdoor patio.
The
view outdoors is splendid, incorporating a verdant grassy compound
dotted with acacias. You can watch the planes take off and land while
enjoying the African sunshine.
As soon as my friend and I walked in, a young, attentive waiter made eye-contact, smiled and offered to help us find a table.
Throughout the rest of our lunch meeting, this young man ensured that we had a pleasantly seamless experience.
IMPECCABLE MEAL
The
menu is a simple, classic one-pager, with each meal named after a
famous pilot or a type of airplane. My friend had a chicken tandoori
boneless curry with mashed potatoes and chapatti, and I had a delicious
T-bone steak with grilled vegetables and a side salad.
My
meal was impeccable – the salad was fresh and flavourful and the
vegetables were perfectly roasted and crunchy. I was an extremely happy
camper.
The next time I come I will likely try their
sky-high burgers. These first made their mainstream debut among the
masses during Nairobi Restaurant Week earlier this year.
Social
media photographs of this famous burger kept making their way to the
blogosphere. A particularly fussy gourmand on the hunt for the best
burgers in Kenya sampled them and gave them two thumbs up.
Overall
the portions at Creative Kitchen are generous, which in my opinion
translates to good value for money. If your appetite is larger than
average, you can opt for the buffet.
It
changes daily and when we visited, they had several pasta options
including spaghetti and lasagna. Unlimited salad comes with the buffet
option.
Desserts include simple
classic favourites like homemade apple pies, English pancakes, cheese
cake and fruit salad. The standard price for dessert is Sh500.
If
you prefer a lighter meal they have several wraps, sandwiches and sides
on offer ranging from Sh250. Smoothies and milkshakes as well as hot
beverages are also on the menu.
My
meal came to Sh1, 400. The average entree here is about Sh1, 000 so if
you have dessert or a starter, expect to part with about Sh2, 000 for
lunch here.
