Twenty three more schools have joined the long list of beneficiaries of the Airtel led Internet for schools project.
Targeting a record 1 million students in the country with free 24 hour Internet connection, the telecommunications giant has so far connected 177 schools across the country impacting over 250,000 students to date.
The consistent growth in reach is attributed to partnerships with major foundations such as the Chandaria Foundation and the Global Peace Foundation which just last month supported 41 schools in Kenya with free internet connection through the LEAP Hubs entrepreneurship program.
COMMITED TO PROJECT
Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi was quoted as saying that the company is committed to the ambitious project, adding that access to the Internet will keep students in schools updated and knowledgeable on current issues in all fields of knowledge.
“With our Internet for Schools project, we aim to bridge the digital divide that exists in communities and schools without access to Internet. It is for this reason that we’re proud to continue providing this free connectivity to more and more schools. This is a timely action because of the changes in the education system with more students turning to the Internet for learning resources,” said Mr El Youssefi.
