Nairobi to go without water due to plant maintenance

City residents will go without water for two days after the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company announced it will shut down a treatment plant for two days.
According to a notice place on the Daily Nation on Monday by the company Managing Director Mr Philip Gichuki, the shutdown slated for July 1 at 6am to July 2 at 6pm will affect the Ng’ethu water treatment plant.
“The shutdown will enable the maintenance works to be done at the plant inlet-phase driving chamber which will further enhance water production,” read the statement.
During the shutdown, the whole of city centre, University of Nairobi Main campus, Coca Cola factory, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and EZP Athi River will be affected.

Other sections of Nairobi expected to experience the shutdown include Industrial area, parts of Juja, Mlango Kubwa, Mathare, Eatleigh Air Force base, Huruma, Kariobangi, Pangani and Buruburu.
“Areas along Jogoo road, Maringo, Bahati, Baba dogo, Dandora Umoja, Donholm, Fesha, Tassia, Avenue Park, Nyayo Embakasi, parts of Kangundo road. Ruai, Kayole, Komarock, Njiru, Mwiki, Kasarani, Kahawa Sukari and garden estate will also be affected,” the statement reads.
Residents of Limuru road, Parklands, Ngara, Aga Khan hospital, Gigiri, Muthaiga, City park area, Naivasha road, Kangemi, Satelite, Kawangware, Waithaka and the surrounding areas will also be affected during the shutdown.
“While every efforts will be made to restore supply of water, we request all customers in the affected areas to use their storage water sparingly during the period of interruption,” the statement added.
