Togo's constitutional court on Sunday confirmed the victory of incumbent president Faure Gnassingbe in last week's elections, declaring that he beat rival Jean-Pierre Fabre with just over 58 per cent of the vote.
"I declare that the elected president of the Republic of Togo is Faure Gnassingbe," said president of the court Aboudou Assouma in a statement broadcast live from the court in Lome on national television.
The official results put Gnassingbe on 58.77 percent of the vote with Fabre on 35.19 per cent.
