Meru Governor Peter Munya has been
selected to replace Bomet’s Isaac Ruto as chairman of the Council of
Governors, with Kwale’s Salim Mvurya as his second.
The pair was picked “by consensus” after
days of lobbying for the influential chairman’s post by Munya, Mvurya
and Kakamega’s Wycliffe Oparanya.
The Kakamega governor settled for the key position of CoG whip, which had been held by Bungoma’s Ken Lusaka.
The new chairman, vice-chairman and whip take office immediately as the terms of the previous holders end Thursday.
