Seven people were shot dead and seven injured in a night attack on a Turkana village at around 1am on Sunday.
The bandits drove away all camels and goats from the sheds at Kakunyuk village that has a population of about 300.
Turkana South sub county administrator John Lokoli said that two people were killed and two others injured at the village before the animals were driven away.
He said a group of herders followed the bandits, engaging them in a fierce exchange of fire.
“Five others were killed and five injured on the battlefield,” said Mr Lokoli, adding that the search is still on as exact number of people who were involved in an attempt to recover the animals is yet to be established.
Turkana South deputy county commissioner Elijah Kodoh said that Anti Stock Theft Unit officers had been deployed as efforts to coordinate recovery of the livestock continue.
