It is estimated that about 40 per cent of the miners suffer from tuberculosis, Arusha Times has reported.
The plan was divulged by one of the directors of the mining
company, Hussein Gonga while he was handing over 750 iron sheets to
small scale miners who lost their structures following a fire outbreak.
Mererani Branch of Manyara Region Miners Association (MAREMA) has
expressed gratitude to TanzaniteOne for the assistance saying that the
iron sheets would help to provide shelter for the mines particularly
during the on-going rainy season.
MAREMA also submitted a report to the Manyara Regional
Commissioner, Dr Joel Bendera, in which they denied a report by Tanzania
Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) published in one of the newspapers on
March 13, this year claiming that the fire was not TANESCO’s fault.
"TANESCO came to install a meter on one of the poles near my mine
and I saw sparks on the pole and the technician who was installing the
meter jumped down. When I asked him why there was a fire, he answered me
it is not his task and the fire spread," said Pili Hussein.
Hussein said that her assets valued shs. 230 million were reduced
to ashes. She was amazed how TANESCO was refuting their fault since many
times when an explosion occurred to a particular mine, it only affects
that mine and not other mines.
Manyara Regional Commissioner, Joel Bendera said that this is not
the period of investigating the source of fire, but it is the time for
looking assistance of food, accommodation, water, medical facilities.
