More than five allies of Cord leader Raila Odinga are scrambling
for the Homa Bay chairmanship in an election to be held at the weekend.
Homa
Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata
and MPs Joseph Oyugi Magwanga (Kasipul) and Peter Opondo Kaluma (Homa
Bay Town) have thrown their hats in the ring for the March 7 contest.
The Karachuonyo sub-branch chairman, Mr Tom Dola, is also said to have set his eyes on the chairmanship.
During
last Sunday’s burial of Nominated Ward Rep Monica Amolo, Nominated MP
Oburu Oginga said Mrs Wanga and Mr Magwanga deserve to be rewarded for
the role they played in the recent senate by-election.
KAJWANG'S DEATH
The
chairman’s seat fell vacant following the death of Otieno Kajwang’ and
his deputy Monica Amollo, who had taken over in an acting capacity.
The
situation in the branch leadership was further complicated during the
recent by-election after the branch secretary, Mr James Rege, who is
also the MP for Karachuonyo, campaigned for Maendeleo Democratic Party
candidate Philip Okundi.
Mr Rege was in the camp of
former Rangwe MP Martin Otieno Ogindo and Kasipul politician Charles
Ongondo Were who had, during the recent campaigns, introduced themselves
as branch chairman and vice chairman respectively.
