Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Lazaro Nyalandu
The multimillion shillings facilities were received on Sunday by
the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Lazaro Nyalandu, at the
Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA).
Speaking during a brief function, Nyalandu said the equipment will boost the government’s anti-poaching efforts.
He said the facilities were donated by a Good Samaritan who did not want to be known even in his country.
“These sophisticated facilities will be used by game rangers in the
Wildlife Division to scale up anti-poaching efforts,” the minister
said. He said arrangements were underway to get approval on their use
before taking them to the site.
“We are well-placed to ensure Tanzania’s wild animals are protected
for the benefit of current and future generations. I am happy to see
these facilities because they are sophisticated,” remarked the minister.
Meanwhile, the Northern Zone officer of the Anti-poaching unit,
Rajab Nyoni, said the new weapons have motivated them in the
anti-poaching drive.
The Anti-poaching Unit manager, Michael Msopa, commended the
minister for getting the sponsor who provided them with the weapons.
