The National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the
licences of two matatu saccos whose vehicles were recently involved in
accidents along the Mai-Mahiu-Narok road.
The authority
has also directed the traffic commandant to ensure vehicles from the
two saccos, Daima Connection Ltd and Rengcom Communications, Ltd, are
impounded if found flouting the suspension, until they meet set
conditions.
The suspension follows separate road
crashes by vehicle registration number KBT 871A, belonging to Daima
Sacco and KBK 984D of Rengcom, on January 24.
The
transport agency suspended night travel license for Daima Sacco while
vehicles belonging to Rengcom are banned from day or night travel until
conditions set by the authority are fulfilled.
The
authority has also warned other saccos against registering, or admitting
vehicles from the suspended saccos, until authority is given by NTSA.
Vehicles
belonging to Daima connection have also been given seven days to
present their vehicles to the authority for inspection, failure to which
they risk losing their daytime license.
The new
measures are contained in a public notice issued today by the NTSA, as
it moves to crack down on errant matatus, in a bid to curb road carnage.
