The Co-operative Bank Foundation will this year sponsor 655 bright but needy children to get full four-year scholarships through their secondary schools.
The foundation’s ninth annual education scholarship will bring the total number of beneficiaries to 3,472 since its inception in 2007.
Co-operative Bank Chief Executive Gideon Muriuki said the grassroots selection process ensured fairness and awarded the most deserving cases.
“Co-operative Bank has one of the most democratic systems of granting scholarships. Our students are selected at the grassroots level by cooperative societies across the country through a well-established national delegates system. At the bank’s head office, our role is to process payments to the schools and monitor the students,” said Mr Muriuki.
This year’s beneficiaries of the programme will be known from next week.
