YAOUNDE (Reuters) - Cameroon exported 115,951 tonnes of raw cocoa beans in the season to end-December or 9.5 percent higher compared with the same period last year, statistics from the National Cocoa and Coffee Board (NCCB) showed on Thursday.
Africa's fourth biggest .............................
cocoa producer shipped 42,668 tonnes in the month of December compared with 29,198 tonnes the previous month, the data showed. The country had exported 25,848 tonnes in December 2013.
Cocoa is one of the main cash crops of Cameroon. The season runs from August 1 to July 31, with the main crop harvest from October to January/February and the light crop harvest from April/May to June/July.
The Central African country's output hit a record of 240,000 tonnes in the 2010/11 season but has been slipping steadily due to a prolonged dry season and attacks by pests and black pod diseases. Output fell sharply to 209,905 tonnes in 2013/14.
