The undersea cable fibre optic provider Seacom is betting on Cloud computing services offered by its subsidiary firm, Pamoja services, to sign up businesses and home Internet users.
Seacom, with over 17,000 Kilometres of fibre optic cable connecting East and South Africa to Europe, has for the past five years been selling fibre connectivity wholesale but has now incorporated Pamoja to drive uptake of its extra capacity by selling directly to homes, small and medium businesses.
“The past five years were about unlocking different bottlenecks in the ICT chain across Africa. We now believe that consumers are going to experience the next generation of data connectivity leading to greater use of streaming data, efficiency at the work place, home offices and dynamic social media,” said Brian Herlihy, Seacom’s Founder.
The cloud infrastructure has enhanced storage of confidential and sensitive data, as well as service interruptions associated with cloud services delivered from outside Africa.
“We plan to continue evolving our core infrastructure to lead the region into the next stage of ICT growth,” Seacom chairman Nizar Juma said in a statement, after conclusion of a board meeting in Maputo, Mozambique.
Recently Pamoja launched a business management Software for ISO certification through easy online automated processes.
The cloud-based software dubbed RUBiQ is a management software application, comprising various modules that helps embed good governance, risk and compliance as an operating norm, without the need for several different systems to manage the business.
Pamoja partnered with Camara International as its channel partner and exclusive reseller for RUBiQ.
Under the agreement, Camara International will also provide the technical skills to configure the systems to meet the clients’ existing needs.
RUBiQ targets both big corporations and Small and Medium-Size SMEs. The services are provided on per user, monthly subscription basis, hence eliminating the intensive capital expenditure required to deploy such systems.
The software also enables dashboard-based reporting, which provides a real-time visibility of the claims and their financial impacts.
Through the cloud-based services, which has consolidated all ISO certification processes on one platform, companies can also monitor and evaluate their processes online in real time.
RUBiQ has the ability to intelligently trigger alerts in case of procedural mishaps and allows organisations to set strategic goals and report on areas that need improvement.
In Kenya the software has been deployed by Kenya Ports Authority KPA, who has been able to optimize its overall service efficiency.
