Pinda: Many job openings await Tanzanians in Qatar

Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda
Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda has said there are many opportunities for Tanzanians to get employment in Qatar’s industry and tourism sectors once the two countries sign an agreement any time soon.

The Premier is on a three-day official visit to Qatar starting yesterday.

A statement issued by Prime Minister’ Office  and made available to the media yesterday said Pinda told journalists shortly after meeting his counterpart Sheikh Abdulla Nasser Al Thani in Doha that they discussed  on four main issues including the employment.

Pinda said they have agreed to offer employment to Tanzanians due to the fact that Qatar has a shortage of human resourced in various sectors.

“Already there are Tanzanians who are working here but very few. We started discussing with Qatar government long time ago and after signing the agreement in the near future we shall be able to know the number of people needed,” explained Pinda and added: “Here in Qatar there are many huge investments that need human resource…in hotels, industries and other sectors.”

According to Pinda, some of the issues that were discussed include agriculture, livestock keeping and fishing as an area, oil and gas, and information communication and technology.

“Qatar is a desert and therefore, they have agreed to invest in Tanzania’s agriculture, livestock and fishing since we are too close to Qatar than United States of America and Brazil. They can get rice, fruits, meat and processing industries. We have the Indian ocean but our capital is small. We have agreed to look into these areas,” Pinda is quoted in the statement as saying.

Pinda said Qatar has agreed to help Tanzania with experts for oil and gas exploration.

“They have agreed to help us with expertise  how to use gas in the industries since our friends are experienced in such. They have also shown interest in the oil,” he said.

Pinda later yesterday met with ministers of Social Welfare, Transport, Infrastructure and Investment as well as Economic and Energy deputy ministers.

Apart from that, the Premier also met the chairman of the Qatar Business Community, members of the Chamber of Commerce of the State of Qatar.

Today, Pinda is expected to visit Qatar Ports Authorities and the headquarters for Qatar gas exploration firm.

The PM is accompanied by ministers, MPs and Regional some Commissioners. They include among others ministers of Livestock and Fisheries Development, Dr Titus Mlengeya Kamani as well as Agriculture and Natural Resources (Zanzibar), Dr Sira Ubwa Mamboya.

Others are deputy ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Mahadhi Maalim, Energy and Minerals, Charles Kitwanga, as well as Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperatives, Godfrey Zambi.
