A fugitive Kenyan businessman wanted by Interpol for
allegedly dealing in ‘blood ivory’ was arrested Monday night in
Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
Mr Feisal Ali Mohamed, 47, was found hiding in a house in the port city.
He is wanted in Kenya and is being held under a warrant of arrest issued against him in October 2014.
Police have described Mohamed as
the leader of an international poaching syndicate in East Africa and say
he was linked to three metric tonnes of illegally poached ivory found
in Tudor, Mombasa, in June last year. He faces charges of dealing in
wildlife trophies contrary to “section 84(1) as read with section 92 of
the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act”.
Nairobi Interpol boss Vitalis
Okumu on Tuesday confirmed his arrest, saying his officers plan to bring
Mohamed back to Kenya to face trial.
