Retired President Daniel arap Moi has defended President Uhuru Kenyatta over criticism on rising insecurity in the country.
This follows calls from civil society groups to the Presidents to urgently fix the "security meltdown" facing the country.
The
former president said that the issue of insecurity is the
responsibility of every person and not a preserve of President Kenyatta.
Speaking
during the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of Moi University
in Eldoret, Mr Moi rubbished calls by the civil society who have
castigated President Kenyatta on insecurity issues.
"They
are the same people who crafted the Constitution which is causing
problems, particularly insecurity, in the country," Mr Moi said.
PROVDE SOLUTIONS
He
said that the civil society groups ought to provide solutions on how
the country should address emerging issues in a peaceful manner.
"They should provide ways of improving the country's state of insecurity in a peaceful way and not trying to cause chaos.
“Are they not the ones who crafted the constitution we are currently using?" he posed.
Earlier,
top civil society leaders in the country had called on President Uhuru
Kenyatta to urgently fix the "security meltdown" facing the country or
vacate State House for another person who can get the job done.
The
Orange Democratic Movement had suggested on Sunday that if the Jubilee
government had failed to address insecurity, they should give up the
reins of power and call for fresh elections.
On the
issue of innovation, the retired president called on universities to
focus more on inventions that can cure diseases such as cancer and other
deadly ailments
