There are plenty of crazy, funny things happening over the four days – from comedy capers in the Palace of Entertainment to gypsy folk music in the Polka tent. Even the campsite is different, there are colour coded areas with a song to match. Also on offer is a pamper lounge, a chance to have a massage and luxury camping options. Not a regular festival by any means!
For its 10 year anniversary, the celebration is the biggest yet with a top line up featuring Elton John, Fatboy Slim and Franz Ferdinand, along with other fantastic bands and DJs. Bestival isn’t just about music and there is a big line up of cabaret, comedy and talks at the amphitheatre stage.
The festival organiser is Rob da Bank, a Radio One DJ, along with his wife Rosie da Bank, who has brought an eclectic flair to the proceedings. Their creative talents have produced a real crowd-pleaser of an event that continues to draw people to it. It was voted ‘Best Major Festival’ at the UK Festival Awards in 2012 and with bigger crowds each year and fantastic energy and creativity behind it, it looks like its success will continue.
It’s also worth mentioning that in 2010 they managed a new world record (now in the Guinness Book of World Records) for the most people in fancy dress at any one event. This was achieved with 55,000 revellers setting the bar! What’s not to like about this festival!
