UK-based Kibo Mining PLC has
released the results from a definitive mining feasibility study (DMFS)
for the Rukwa coal project which indicate that the Tanzania mining
project can support a 300MW mine-mouth power station.
According
to Kibo Chief Executive, Louis Coetzee, early economic and technical
evaluation of the Rukwa site confirmed robust project fundamentals and
results of the feasibility study show that the deposits can be mined in
an opencast style for the anticipated life of the mine of at least 27
years.
“We are delighted with the latest
results of the ongoing work at Rukwa and the rapid progress the company
is making at the moment,” said Mr. Coetzee.
The power station at Rukwa will
require 28.8 million tons of coal over the course of 20 years, which
represents 48% of the currently mineable resources for the mine and
suggests a potential for a 40 year lifespan for the plant.
Kibo Mining is an Irish registered
company that was established in 2008 with the initial aim to explore and
develop gold and nickel deposits in Tanzania and now has one of the
largest mineral right portfolios in the country with projects including
gold, nickel, coal and uranium |
