Kenya is seeking re-election to the board of the United Nations body which regulates the global telecommunication industry.
The
country has, consequently, proposed Mr Stanley Kibe to contest for a
post on the Radio Regulations Board (RRB) of the International
Telecommunication Union, at the ongoing conference in Busan, South
Korea.
Speaking during a luncheon he hosted on the
sidelines of the event, ICT Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said Kenya
fully endorses Mr Kibe whose performance over the last four years has
been outstanding.
Mr Kibe is the director of frequency
spectrum management at the Communications Authority of Kenya and has
served on the RRB board since 2010.
“We have
experiences, knowledge and expertise to share, and in that vein, we
humbly request for another opportunity to serve the union on the council
and the Radio Regulations Board; Roles that have always been a humbling
delight for us,” Mr Matiang’i said.
The country is also eyeing re-election to the ITU governing council.
Speaking
at the same luncheon, outgoing ITU secretary general Hamadoun Toure
said Kenya’s ICT sector was very vibrant and worth emulating.
