Shenzhen. Tanzania’s President
Jakaya Kikwete has urged Huawei Technologies to continue its investment
in Tanzania’s information and communication technology to help innovate
and develop the local ICT industry.
President Kikwete said this during his official
visit to Huawei Technologies headquarters in Shenzhen, China recently.
The two sides had constructive talks and exchanged views on Tanzania’s
2025 ICT development plan.
The president had the opportunity to discuss with
Huawei key issues regarding the development and reformation of the
information and telecommunication sector in Tanzania.
“It has been a pleasure to visit Huawei’s
headquarters in Shenzhen, and to have the opportunity to discuss
developing and reforming the ICT industry in Tanzania. I look forward to
building upon our relationship as Huawei continues to support the
Tanzanian government in communications technology innovation as we work
to reform the national company, TTCL,” said President Kikwete.
For his part, Huawei Technologies vice president
Li JinGe said his company will continue working closely with the
Tanzanian government and other stakeholders to help boost and build
capacity for the country’s ICT sector.
President Kikwete said: “Huawei is a workers’
collective shareholding company, the boss holds only 1.4 per cent
shares, which is admirable. I thank Huawei for your contribution to
Tanzania. I am expecting Huawei to continue supporting Tanzania in the
field of ICT.”
