In Summary
Airtel subscribers can now pay their taxes through
their mobile money platform following a partnership with the Kenya
Revenue Authority (KRA), which will also see the telco grow its
revenues.
Airtel is charging its subscribers between Sh10 to Sh270 depending on the amounts being paid through the platform.
The partnership also allows Airtel subscribers to
inquire for KRA services, generate a KRA payment reference number (PRN
or an e-slip/invoice number) and make quick simple payments through
Airtel Money by simply dialling the short code *572#.
“Taxpayers who pay taxes using Airtel Money are
assured that their payments will be cleared, processed and credited to
the KRA account in real-time. This is expected to reduce the need to
walk to KRA banking halls to queue to pay their taxes,” Adil El
Youssefi, the Airtel Kenya chief executive officer said.
Currently KRA have availed Traffic revenue Service
payments e-slip generation through mobile. These includes: Driving
License application and renewal payments, Mobile Vehicle Transfer,
Logbook payments and Motor vehicle inspection payments. The rest of the
services require citizens to go to KRA website - iTax to generate an
e-slip number that will facilitate payment through Airtel money.
