Samsung has partnered with Safaricom to boost the uptake of its Internet-enabled television sets by offering buyers a free 3G dongle.

Under the arrangement, Safaricom will provide the 3G dongles and in return make revenue from the Internet usage.
Samsung expects that the move will encourage the uptake and usage of the smart television sets that come with Internet-supported features such as YouTube and Skype which will be available in the market by December.
The Samsung Smart TV allows users to enjoy Internet content and downloaded apps while still accessing ordinary television programmes.
“At Samsung, the television is more than just a screen— it is a window to the world, providing new experiences, new discoveries and new possibilities,” said Won Jin Lee, executive vice president of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.
“Samsung customers will enjoy even more entertaining and easy-to-use content on the Samsung Smart TV.”
Skype will be available in Quarter 4 after an update on the U9000 TV Series.
Game applications are currently available in limited countries in Europe, Korea and the US as they can only be played on Game Panel.
