Cord's Okoa Kenya rally in Kinango market in Kwale County was on
Monday briefly interrupted after an elderly man emerged from the crowd
and attacked Raila Odinga and Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya using a
walking stick.
The man hit Mr Odinga and Governor
Mvurya twice on the back each moments after they had joined a dancing
troupe for the traditional sengenya dance.
Mr Odinga's aides immediately seized the man, but were prevailed upon to release him.
The rally proceeded after calm had been restored.

At
the rally, Mr Odinga said he was ready to appear before a parliamentary
committee to back his claims that Sh15 billion were lost during the
transition period.
He questioned why governors had not been arrested and taken to court if indeed they had embezzled funds.
“They
are claiming that governors are stealing money but unfortunately none
of them has been arrested and this is a clear indication that their
allegations are baseless,” he said.
