MCT to inaugurate newly elected board tomorrow

Chief Justice of Tanzania Mohamed Chande Othman is expected to inaugurate the newly elected Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) governing board tomorrow in Dar es Salaam.
 
A press statement issued yesterday in the city by the council and signed by MCT’s Executive Secretary Kajubi Mukajanga (pictured) says, the new board was elected by the National General Convention (NGC) during its meeting in Bagamoyo on June 25, 2014. 
 
The new President of the Council is now retired Justice Thomas Mihayo who is taking over from retired Judge Dr. Robert Kisanga who has completed his second three year tenure along with his Deputy Chande Omar Omar who is now being replaced by Hassan Mitawi. 
 
The new MCT elected board members are The Guardian’s Chief Editor Wallace Mauggo who will work with Rose Haji, Tuma Abdallah and Badra Masoud all from the media industry.
 
Members of the public on the Board are retired Judge Juston Mlay, Ali Mufuruki and Professor Bernadetha Killian.  
 
This is the sixth board since the establishment of the Council in 1995. 
After tomorrow’s inaugural ceremony in Dar es Salaam, the new Board will hold its first meeting where they will form two committees – the Finance and Administration Committee and the Ethics Committee and also deliberate other issues.
