The award has recognised TCRA as one of the best enterprises in the regulation of telecommunications, broadcasting, and electronic communication.
Speaking yesterday in Dar es Salaam after receiving the certificate, TCRA Director General Prof. John Nkoma said that the international recognition has been made possible by the excellent co-operation, commitment and seriousness of the TCRA staff.
He said TCRA is working to ensure effective and efficient regulatory frameworks are in pace and are also observed to facilitate universal access to communication for Tanzanians.
“Telecom companies have increased from one before TCRA’s establishment in 2003, to over seven phone companies with about 28,000,000 simcards in the market,” he said.
“Mobile telephones have changed the lives of Tanzanians especially in aspects such as mobile money transfers, bill payments, revenue collection, mobile saving and the like and as such, we are working to ensure the sector is regulated and monitored effectively,” he said.
Pointing out that, the postal sector has also grown from one public operator to over 50 postal service operators, with international and local courier service operators he said, regulation of the postcode system is essential to the socio-economic infrastructure and development of a country.
“Postcodes also form the cornerstone of quality postal services, facilitating business transactions and the country's general economic growth,” he said.
A consultant from Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), Engineer Salvatory Rusimbi urged TCRA to continue offering the best communication services possible.
Seconding the advise, Andrew Rowe, an External Auditor from United Kingdom (UK) commended TCRA for their commitment and called upon them to continue doing so.
“I commend TCRA for their commitment and efforts in fulfilling their duties…keep it up,” he encouraged TCRA.
