NIC Bank
has hired a former Citibank executive to head its human resources
department. Monicah Kihia takes over as the human resources director,
replacing David Kiambi who took up a similar position at the Nation Media Group in April.
Ms Kihia held various senior positions in talent management
at Citibank. She holds an MBA (Marketing & Strategic Management)
from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Education (Mathematics
& Economics) degree from Egerton University.
Ms Kihia is the second senior executive to leave
Citibank for NIC in recent months. The mid-sized lender last month
appointed Ms Esther Ngaine as its non-executive director after she left
her position as director of public sector at Citi.
Talent surveys conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers
(PwC) have consistently pointed to scarcity of top talent in the region,
forcing companies to respond with wider compensation schemes to retain
their senior executives.
The services industry has been the hardest hit,
with financial firms like banks, asset managers, and insurers recording
some of the highest executive turnovers.
“Companies are offering higher pay as a key talent
retention strategy,” Kuria Muchiru, PwC human resource leader for
central and southern Africa said during the release of the latest talent
survey by the advisory firm.
