Senior police officers in Nairobi are
investigating two of their colleagues who were present when a US
national was robbed at his home.
The two officers
attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations were at Mr Henry
Atikisow’s house in Hendred Place off Mbaazi Road in Lavington, around
10pm on Saturday, questioning him.
Five gangsters, three armed with pistols, entered the house and ordered all of them to lie down.
“They
then stole Sh40,000, some money in dollars, a computer, two laptops and
a mobile phone,” said Nairobi County Deputy Police Commander Moses
Ombati.
ESCAPED IN A VEHICLE
“They
also made away with a mobile phone belonging to one of the police
officers, Mr John Kiprop.” The robbers escaped in a vehicle that was
waiting for them nearby, he added.
Mr Charles Omuga,
the other policeman present, was armed with a Browning pistol but did
not fire any shot, according to investigation reports.
Mr
Ombati said they would establish whether the two detectives were
negligent during the robbery. If that is found to be the case, they
would face disciplinary action, said the police boss. However, he said
the officers may have been caught unawares.
