Kenya Commercial Bank chief executive
officer Joshua Oigara has been elected chairman of Kenya Bankers
Association, taking over from his Barclays Bank counterpart Jeremy
Awori.
A statement from KCB said Mr Oigara was elected
by members of KBA’s governing council at its 52nd annual general meeting
on Thursday.
‘The new governing council will serve for
a period of 12 months under the chairmanship of Mr Joshua Oigara and
vice chairman Jeremy Ngunze of Commercial Bank of Africa,’ reads the
statement.
KBA, the bankers’ umbrella body, comprises 45 banks that are licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya.
These
banks are represented by their chief executive officers and/or managing
directors, who appoint a governing council to oversee industry-wide
activities on behalf of the general body.
