Ubungo junction
The announcement was made yesterday afternoon by Strabag International, the main contractor of the ongoing Bus Rapid Transport System (BRT) in Dar es Salaam.
According to the company’s Public Relations Officer, Yahya Mkumba the diversion has been necessitated by construction activities that will be taking place at the junction.
He explained that the first phase will involve the right hand side of the junction where the Morogoro and Sam Nujoma roads junction will be blocked.
“Traffic using the Ubungo junction from Tabata will be diverted to the concrete lanes,” he explained noting that commuters will have the option of passing through Shekilango road and connect with Sam Nujoma again via Igesa road.
However, he cautioned that, traffic from Sinza area using Igesa road will not have the option of heading for Ubungo on reaching the Igesa/Sam Nujoma road junction.
He said traffic from Mbezi and Kimara areas will have to divert right and pass on the concrete lanes upon reaching Kibo area that will also be blocked.
Mkumba said the second phase will involve the left hand side of the area where the Nelson Mandela/Morogoro road junction will be blocked.
He said during this phase, traffic using Sam Nujoma road from Mwenge area will have the option of using Igesa road—Shekilango and later connect with Morogoro road.
Traffic from Tabata area heading to the city through Morogoro road will have to divert left and make a U-turn at Kibo area.
“We ask the road users to bear with us as we undertake this important project,” he bid the public.
