Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa has assured residents of tight security during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Mr
Marwa said they were going to target criminals and not to harass the
innocent residents. He added that they were prepared for the active
nights during this month as most families would be outdoors.
Mr Marwa revealed that patrols would be frequent and cautioned police officers to carry out their operations in a humane manner.
“Let
us carry out our patrols with consideration that this is a holy month
and that we need to give our brothers and sisters sufficient time for
worship,” he said.
During a security meeting at his
office Saturday, Mr Marwa warned criminals not to take advantage of the
Ramadan month to commit crime. He said the law was going to catch up
with them.
He further assured that there will be
constant supply of water and power for the residents saying he had
already discussed the issue with the County Executive for Water and
Environment Fatma Awale.
“Water is very critical and I
have asked Fatma and the MD Mombasa Water not to disconnect water supply
to the residents. Kenya Power Regional Manager Yusuf Haid is well aware
that we do not want power interruptions,” the commissioner said.
The
Commissioner said that criminal activities had gone down in the county
and commended security agents and other stakeholders for improving the
security situation in the region.
“We want to thank our
security machinery, members of the public and elected leaders for
ensuring that crime goes down. The general security in the county is not
as bad as it was two months ago, although we have isolated incidences
of crime that we are witnessing in some areas,” he said.
Mr Marwa called on leaders to come out and support the government on matters of security.
