Retired President Mwai Kibaki has urged leaders to work together and avoid divisive politics.

He said local and national leaders should come together and focus on ways through which poverty can be successfully fought.

 

Mr Kibaki was speaking on Friday when he commissioned Lerujat borehole at Ole Tinga in Kajiado West constituency.

He asked all leaders to tone down their rhetoric and instead engage in matters that would benefit the people.

He also said tribal politics would not help tackle the many challenges facing citizens and stressed the need for co-operation.

He said Kenya was endowed with many resources but faced some problems.

“Ours is a land of opportunity and abundance. The challenge, however, is finding ways of persuading our people to become actively involved in the exploitation of these resources and converting them to wealth,” he said.

He urged Kenyans to be creative in the ways they utilise resources.

“I plead with all citizens to scale up their resolve and deploy that which we have to the best use possible,” he added.

Mr Kibaki thanked the donor – Water For All – for digging the borehole for area residents saying it would transform many lives.
