'Drugs for male organ enhancement banned'

Deputy minister for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Steven Kebwe
Importation of male genital enhancement drugs and other related pharmaceutical products has been prohibited by the government with a stern warning of severe legal actions against those found violating the ban.

Addressing the National Assembly yesterday in Dodoma, deputy minister for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Steven Kebwe told the House that stern measures will be taken against people found guilty of the practice.

Dr Kebwe was responding to a question by Special Seats MP, Rukia Kasim Ahmed (CUF) who wanted to know why the government has remained silent while the fraudulent trade is gaining ground in various parts of the country.

The MP also queried over why the government has failed to arrest those involved because some of the sellers advertise their businesses in newspapers and with their phone numbers and physical addresses included.

Rukia also wanted to know whether the drugs have been approved by the health and safety bodies like the Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) an inquiry to which the deputy minister noted that the drugs are not recognized by TFDA and that the business is illegal in Tanzania.

“The ministry of Health and Social Welfare through TFDA has never registered any drug that works to enlarge male parts,” he said and remained emphatic that the drugs are not recognized by the government nor registered by TFDA.
