Anonymous asked us via Tumblr: Can I sign up for Medicare at age 65 and still work until 70+/-? I would like to contribute to my defined benefit plan as long as I can.

Yes, you can certainly continue working and still enroll in Medicare. You should check with your employer plan to see whether you need to take all of Medicare or if you can delay Part B. If you take Medicare Part A, which is a good idea, you need to also consider Part D and get confirmation that your employer plan has creditable drug coverage. Otherwise you might get hit with a premium penalty in the future, says Leslie Fried of the National Council on Aging. And one more note: Even if you’re still working past age 65 and take Medicare, you will continue to have Medicare taxes deducted from your paycheck.
