Public urged to help disadvantaged children

Individuals and institutions in the country have been urged to assist the less privileged especially children so as to help them progress and ultimately contribute to the country’s development.

The challenge was given by Tanzania Telecommunications Company Ltd (TTCL) Public Relations Manager, Amini Mbaga when presenting cement donation to a Dar es Salaam based children centre named ‘Mama wa Huruma’ in Madale area over the weekend.

According to Mbaga, the donation-70 bags of cement aim to help the centre have its own buildings and renovate the available ones so that children can live in a better environment.

“Apart from being a communication service provider, we normally engage ourselves in assisting the needy,” he said, insisting that other people should emulate them.

The centre established in 2010 under Roman Catholic nuns supports children living in difficult conditions.

Mbaga noted that by taking care of the children, the centre is meaningfully contributing towards creating a better society in the near future, “such efforts must be supported.”

The centre’s Chairman, Sister Berna Mdendemi said the centre accommodates 70 children who are orphans, street children and others who were living in various difficult conditions.

“We decided to establish this centre after realizing that a big number of children were in need of help,” she said.
She said the centre helps the children get education up to primary level, vocational training, shelter, food and health services.

She said their future plan is to build a secondary school to further help the children at the centre.

“We thank TTCL for their assistance...it will help us push the construction project,” she said, calling upon other institutions to assist them so that they complete their project.
