PM Pinda urges public to review education ministry performance

The public has been urged to review ministerial delivery of the Big Result Now (BRN) particularly that of the education ministry as the country honours the Education Week.


Speaking over the weekend in Dodoma at the launch of the Education Week, Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda said the ministers’ performance is open for public scrutiny.

Reminding the public that under the BRN, responsible ministers in six sectors, education, agriculture, water, transport, energy and resource mobilisation have signed performance contracts with President Jakaya Kikwete pledging to deliver the set targets within the given time frame.

“A year after the initiative kicked off, it is now time the public start reviewed and commented on the performance,” said the PM.

“Use this education week to review how the education sector is performing…on our part, we will ensure that all ministries under the BRN are assessed and the public is kept aware of the results,” he urged.

The Education Week, which will reach its climax on May 10, aims at among other objectives, to bring together education stakeholders to reflect on improvement of the sector.

At the close of the week, President Jakaya Kikwete is expected to award best performing students and most improved schools in the primary and secondary in last year’s finals.

The BRN delivery programme is overseen by the newly formed President’s Delivery Bureau (PDB) to ensure the selected big result projects are fully implemented within the set period of time unrolling big results that will spar development in other sectors. “The Big Result Now Programme has set targets that will help us boost our performance and we are committed to achieving our targets,” Pinda pledged.
