Kigongo re-elected to East African Business Counc

The president of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Olive Kigongo, has been elected for a second term as vice-chairperson of the East African Business Council (EABC).


She was elected during the 15th Annual General Meeting of the EABC in Arusha, Tanzania, over the weekend.

Felix Mosha from Tanzania was elected chairperson for the next one year, taking over from Kenya’s Vimal Shah.

Established in 1997, the EABC is the apex body of business associations of the private sector and corporate from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda, the five member countries of EAC.

It focuses on informing public policy reforms aimed at promoting an environment in the region conducive to business formation and growth.

The council was established to foster and promote the interests of the EAC business community, provide value added services that create new business opportunities and influence public policies with a view of improving the business environment.

Others Ugandans on the council include Nile Breweries’ Onapito Ekomoloit and Jim Kabeho of the Madhvani Group. Gerald Sendawula was the council’s chairperson in 2012.
