Sometimes, as a writer, one is faced with the dilemma of whether to write about the glaringly obvious.
This week’s dilemma: William Kabogo, the Kiambu Governor’s, misogynistic Neanderthal comments concerning women.
Which comments, you ask?
The
governor was quoted as saying in Gikuyu (or misquoted, as he claims) “I
ask you women who are more than 35 years old and not married to get
married as you are the reason men have problems”
He also added that “it is impractical for a single person who has not even been able to take care of a home to lead a nation.”
Mr
Kabogo crowned these gems by saying while making an entry into
politics, interested candidates should first show their spouses to the
public, concluding that unmarried women who are over 35 years of age
have a problem.
HATES WOMEN?
Why would Mr. Kabogo say that unless he hates women? Clearly, he cannot be a supporter of anything that does not have a penis.
He claims he was misquoted (that sounds like Kidero saying he does not remember slapping Shebesh).
The
statement implies that he does not know anyone above this age who is a
functional contributing member of society, and whose singlehood is not
killing them slowly.
I mean, forget Mother Teresa. Who cares that she made an indelible mark on history and was single all her life?
And closer home, his counterpart, Njoki Ndung’u, whose strides in male-dominated fields know no bounds.
Anyway, these women, such as the ones listed above, are the reasons men have problems.
Apparently,
unmarried woman above the age of 35 are the sole cause for prostate
cancer, world hunger, terrorism, and underdevelopment.
Yes?
HATES JESUS?
I wonder what Mr. Kabogo thinks of single men . You see, going by his logic, Mr Kabogo cannot possibly be a Christian.
He
can’t be a Christian, simply because Christianity is based on following
a man who was single his whole life, and must therefore rank very low
in Mr. Kabogo's estimation.
This single man managed to somehow create a world religion and significantly alter the course of time.
But, of course, he must have been deprived and unable to lead a nation, which is why he was founding a religion.
Speaking
of Jesus, there are those on Twitter – one woman in particular – who
support these uneducated statements by an elected public representative
(this is a constant source of embarrassment to me – we actually CHOOSE
to give these people power).
This is why people say women are women’s downfall.
A woman on Twitter – unmarried! – said that Kabogo speaks truth, as it is unbiblical to be single.
This
is hilarious to me, because most of the disciples, and the son of God,
were single. In fact, Paul said, it is better to remain alone; one must
marry only if one is consumed by lust.
It’s sad when people use the Bible to encourage their misinformation and abject ignorance.
So to once again state the obvious: a woman is not incomplete without a man, just as a man is not incomplete without a woman.
Can they benefit each other and work together? Yes.
Is it unbiblical to be alone? Most certainly not.
Are we the cause of the world’s problems? Don’t be an idiot.
If stating that makes me unmarriageable or feminist, or heaven forbid logical, well, then, great.
