Workers at the National Social Security Fund have threatened to go on strike on Tuesday next week to press for higher salaries
The NSSF staff blamed management for stalling talks aimed at increasing their pay by 20 per cent.
The
unionisable employees gave the management an ultimatum and blame them
for the stalled collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations that
are aimed at ensuring the workers’ salaries are increased.
The Kenya Union of Commercial Food and Allied Workers issued a 14- day strike notice on January 7.
“The
management continues to buy time by adjourning meetings to iron out
grievances raised by workers,” said the union’s industry relations
officer John Owiyo. They said consultations with the board of trustees
has not resolved the stalemate.
“Given the economic
difficulties facing workers, the CBA need to be negotiated and concluded
expeditiously,” read a section of the strike notice letter that was
signed by the union’s secretary-general Boniface Kavuvi.
