At least nine suspects were shot dead in three separate incidents in the last 24 hours in Nairobi, police say.

Nairobi County Commander Benson Kibue on Wednesday said that police recovered toy pistols, knives and some items believed to have been stolen from the victims of the attacks.

Five of the suspects who were part of a group of seven were shot dead at a bar within Dandora Phase 5 where they were allegedly robbing the patrons. The men armed with toy pistols raided Summer Pub and started robbing the patrons who raised alarm and Administration Police officers from Muoroto patrol base responded.

The officers found the suspects escaping from the bar, shooting dead four of them as the other three rushed back into the bar. The officers followed them and shot dead one other suspect. “We recovered cash and other valuables from the suspects’ pockets which we suspect had been robbed of the patrons,” Mr Kibue said.

Two other suspects were shot dead on Tuesday at around 6pm in Ruaraka, Glucola slums. Police report that about five young men were robbing the residents who raised alarm and officers from Ruaraka police station rushed to the scene. “We recovered a home-made pistol that is capable of firing and two swords plus assorted mobile phones,” said an officer investigating the case.
Mr Kibue also said that two others were killed at the notorious Makaburini area Wednesday morning. The men, armed with knives, attacked a pedestrian on Wednesday morning when they were seen by police on patrol.

Elsewhere, Starehe OCPD Barasa Wabomba said that at least 25 houses were burnt in Mathare 3A area following the stabbing to death of one of the residents.

Four people were allegedly fighting over cash when one of them was stabbed and later died in hospital. The residents from the deceased’s community then targeted the houses of the suspects' community and set them on fire but the situation was later contained by police. The attacker has since escaped but Mr Kibue said he was being sought.
