Planned public demonstrations in
Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, have hit Kenya Airways’ business, with the
national carrier now making adjustments to its operational time on the
route.
Scheduled to take place on Monday next week, the
demo has seen the airline make changes to “smooth operations and
continuity of service”.
In a statement Friday, the
airline said its customers flying out of Bangkok should be at the main
Suvarnabhumi Airport at least four hours before their scheduled time of
departure.
“This is due to closure of major intersections that will impact traffic.
However, the check-in counter for these flights will remain open until one hour before departure time,” the airline noted.
This
is the second time in less than a month the national carrier has been
forced to adjust its schedules due to political unrest.
On
December 24, last year, KQ was forced to suspend flights to South
Sudan’s capital, Juba, in the wake of a failed coup d’état by former
vice-president, Mr Riek Machar, to overthrow president Salva Kiir.
Operations
of other local airlines, including Fly540 plying the Nairobi - Juba
route had also been disrupted in the stalemate that has seen warring
factions meet in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, for peace talks.
Kenya Airyways has since resumed flights to Juba.
