Cord leaders Raila Odinga and Moses Wetang’ula on Sunday dared the government to disband the Marsabit County government, warning of “unspecified” consequences.

Mr Odinga, who was speaking during Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi’s football tournament at Bomu grounds, said the national government had no powers to disband any county government.
“If they try that, we as Cord coalition will act decisively to counter the government move because it has no jurisdiction to do so,” he said.

At the same time, Mr Odinga criticised the government for downplaying the “assassination attempt” against Mr Wetang’ula.

“They cannot say we are seeking cheap publicity because I visited the scene myself and what I witnessed cannot be dismissed the way the government has done,” he said.
Mr Odinga said Cord leaders would soon show the youth the way after the ODM elections slated for the end of next month.

He said the Jubilee leadership had failed to govern the country.
“We will soon show them the way,” he said.

Mr Wetang’ula also accused the government of downplaying “the assassination attempt” against him.
“I stand here to tell you the truth. How can I stage manage my own death?” he posed.
