Saunders was hit by a train in Soweto on Monday while filming the production World's Most Extreme for Arrow Media.
"We are currently investigating the sequence of events which led to this tragic accident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of Dudley Saunders during this very difficult time," the company said in a statement.
It was initially reported that Saunders was filming for the BBC at the time of his death, however this was not the case.
Arrow media confirmed on Tuesday that Saunders, who was based in Johannesburg, was on a shoot for the company, and said it was informed of the fatal accident on Monday morning.
Saunders documented much of the pre-1994 elections unrest, and recently worked on Special Assignment, for the SABC, and Carte Blanche, for M-Net.
He is the son of former political journalist Cliff Saunders. – Sapa
