Who is Anna Wughangha?
Anna is just an ordinary girl who you will meet on the streets wearing a T-shirt and jeans.
I’m God fearing, an only child and very shy when I am in a crowd of people who I do not know. I am currently studying International Business administration at USIU.

What’s your secret for clinching the number one spot?
There is actually no secret, it is just pure determination and giving it all your best. There was a time when I saw the chances of me not winning being very high since I felt some of the girls had more confidence than me.
But I thank my mother who was always there giving me motivation. She was my rock.

Was this your first trial at a beauty competition?
Yes it was. I am really grateful to my God for the way things turned out. I did not expect to win since all the girls there were super talented.
They all knew everything about their counties, leave alone their beauty. It all came as a big surprise.

Has being Miss Tourism Kenya changed your life?
Yes, because now people recognise me a lot more than before. I have met people who I never dreamt that some day would sit in the same room with me and listen to what I have to say.
Now I have to be more girlie with the sitting and standing postures and the six-inch heels. I find my life a little bit hectic now but I like it. I made my bed and now I have to lie on it.

Are you saying you were a little bit of a tomboy?
I was not a complete definition of a tomboy. But like I told you, I enjoy my jeans, T-shirt and sneakers or sandals more. I used to wear makeup especially my red lipstick, but now it’s more than just the lipstick.

Do you feel pressured to keep a certain image?
I wouldn’t call it pressure since I asked for it, nobody forced me to apply for the competition.
But all the same I also have a regular life and I do not want to intimidate people who might want to interact with me.
Besides, who can do six-inch shoes for a whole day? It is not always that you will find me on heels and full makeup.

Tell us about the project that you will be undertaking?
My project is wildlife conservation. I plan to focus on an animal that is endangered each year and for now I want to focus on the elephants which are the most attacked by poachers for ivory.
I will also involve myself with a lot of charity work and my goal is that by the end of my reign I will have made a difference in Kenya.

How did your boyfriend feel when you were crowned as the winner?
I will decline to answer that. I know my life will never be private any more but let me enjoy it while it lasts.

Do you think the Kenyan society is finally accepting modelling as a “real” career for young women?
Yes, since people are now more knowledgeable about it compared to before where the perception was that all models were stupid and had loose morals.
Things have changed because of the awareness and also inspiring success stories of those who have made it. More parents are even urging their children to venture into such careers.

Who is your role model in the modelling world and who would you like to work with some day?
My biggest role model is Twiggy Lawson because she is short and nobody thought that she would make it but she broke through the barriers.
And no matter how cliché this is, I love Tyra Banks. I would also like to work with Kimora Lee.

Parting shots?
Whatever you are doing know that you can make it as long as you put in the time, love, effort and determination.
