A circular sent out by the university’s Vice-Chancellor Prof George Magoha directed all students to vacate the institution with immediate effect.

“Following student disturbances in the last two days, Senate at its special meeting held today, December 15, 2013, resolved to close the University with immediate effect. All students have been asked to vacate University premises,” read the circular signed by Prof Magoha.

The students on Sunday morning took to the streets to protest the shooting of one of them on Saturday night and the death of another while in police custody.

They engaged the police in running battles and blocked Uhuru Highway, also disrupting traffic on adjacent roads.
