IEBC sets date for Nyaribari Chache by-election

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Sunday announced that the by-election for the Nyaribari Chache National Assembly seat will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013.

In a press release sent to newsrooms on Sunday afternoon, IEBC also set December 16 as the day for continuation of the nomination process.

The Court of Appeal on December 11 upheld an earlier decision by the High Court to nullify the election of Chris Bichage was upheld.

Bichage had made a successful application to halt preparations for the by-election through a Stay Order issued on November 22. (READ: Court ruling throws Nyaribari Chache polls into disarray)
"All other candidates who had been cleared on November 20 are not required to present their nomination papers afresh as they had successfully been cleared," the press release read in part.
IEBC called for peaceful campaigns and strict observance of the electoral code of conduct.
